FIA rejects McLaren car

Lewis Hamilton’s strong hopes of becoming F1 World Champion next season face a huge challenge even before it starts. The FIA, Formula One’s governing body, has summoned McLaren to a court on February 14, one month before the first race of the 2008 season. Investigators are said to have found potentially “illegal traces of Ferrari influence” in the car that Hamilton is lined up to drive.
The Spygate saga is still with us, despite the enormous $100m fine levied against the team last season. …
McLaren takes hit from FIA

After taking a one-two win in the Italian Grand Prix over local rivals Ferrari (Alonso 1st, Lewis Hamilton 2nd), McLaren came back to earth today as FIA, F1.s ruling body, imposed a gigantic $100m (£50m) fine on Ron Dennis’s crack racing team.
McLaren has also been eliminated from this season’s Constructors’ Championship, and possibly next’s as well. At least Hamilton retains his points.
It will be interesting to see if the fine stands at appeal …

Lewis Hamilton looked like coming home in third place in a Turkish Grand Prix where his car could not keep pace with the flying Ferraris. That hope disappeared when a tyre blew with 15 laps to go.
In the event Felipe Massa, who drove to a second consecutive victory at this track, was second and Kimi Raikkonen, also in a Ferrari, third.
